When Near to Grace

On the purpose of ardent devotion

A man visited the community of disciples and the sage. He was much impressed with their ardent devotion, he had never witnessed such in all his travels. When in the company of the sage, he said he wanted to ask one question.

The sage told the man that he was welcome to ask the question, but under one condition, that a reply would be given and that would be the end of the matter, no discussion afterward.

The visitor agreed and asked, "What is the purpose of all this devotion?"
